Marielle and her partner wanted autumn in the old part of the city. We started before sunrise, in the cold, for the hour the light turns gold. Anguk-dong carried the rest: hanok walls, red maples, ginkgo streets going yellow.
The gold light in the alleys lasts about an hour, right after sunrise, so that is when we shot. The long shadows and the low sun in the film are real, not graded in. Their coats were rust and brown, picked to sit inside the autumn rather than stand out against it.

Red maples, hanok stone walls, a bench outside a restaurant, a crowd on the main street with the two of them the only ones in focus. No lines, just the place and the season. The photographs and the film come from the same morning.
Shot on the day by our photographer, working right beside the film camera. Real photographs, not frames pulled from the video. Two crafts, one shoot, one team, and you keep both.

The Scene is our shortest film: one location, one hour of the right light. For Marielle that meant Anguk-dong before sunrise, coats picked to sit inside the season, and a morning allowed to play out on its own. The photographs were made in the same cold gold hour, and both are delivered together.
